Floor sanding and polishing in Geelong
Worn, scratched or orange timber floors can usually be brought back to life. Whether you've pulled up old carpet in a Geelong West weatherboard, inherited tired Tas oak in Belmont or want a lighter look on pine boards in Newtown, the first step is a clear idea of what's possible and what it costs.
Geelong Floor Sanders is an online enquiry service for timber floor work across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast. Tell us about your floor and, with your consent, we'll pass your enquiry to an independent local floor sander once one is appointed. They'll contact you to inspect and quote. We don't do the work ourselves, and there's no obligation.

Typical prices
Published 2026 Australian price guides put a full sand and three clear coats at roughly $30 to $50 per square metre, with a screen and recoat at about $25 to $40 per square metre stairs at about $40 to $120 per step, and deck sanding and oiling at about $35 to $80 per square metre. Most contractors also have a minimum charge for small jobs. We haven't found a published Geelong-specific price survey, so these are national typical ranges, not a quote. See our prices page for the full breakdown and sources.
Geelong floors we often hear about
Geelong's housing covers more than a century of flooring styles, and the type of floor makes a real difference to the job.
- Period homes in Newtown, Geelong West, Herne Hill and Drumcondra often have Baltic pine or other softwood boards. They're soft, dent easily and often have wide gaps, so they need gentler sanding and careful gap work.
- Post-war and 1960s to 1980s homes in Belmont, Highton, Hamlyn Heights, Bell Park and Corio commonly have Victorian ash or Tasmanian oak under the carpet. These hardwoods usually sand up well.
- Newer estates in Armstrong Creek, Mount Duneed, Lara and Charlemont are more likely to have engineered timber or hybrid flooring. Engineered boards can sometimes be sanded, depending on the wear layer. Hybrid and laminate floors can't.
- Coastal homes in Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Torquay and Jan Juc deal with sand tracked inside, which wears finishes faster.

Before you enquire
A few details help a contractor give you a realistic quote:
- The approximate area in square metres, or the rooms involved
- What's on the floor now: carpet, an old clear finish, paint or nothing
- The type of timber, if you know it
- Whether there are stairs, damage or gaps to deal with
- The finish and colour you're thinking about
- When you'd like the work done and whether the house will be empty
Photos of the floor and any problem areas are the most useful thing you can send.
Frequently asked questions
Do you sand floors yourselves?
No. Geelong Floor Sanders is an online enquiry service, not a flooring contractor. With your consent, we pass your enquiry to an independent local floor sander once one is appointed, and they quote and carry out the work under their own terms.
How much does floor sanding cost in Geelong?
Published 2026 Australian guides put a full sand and coat at about $30 to $50 per square metre for common finishes, with minimum charges for small jobs. Repairs, stairs, stains and hardwax oil cost extra. A contractor can only confirm the price after seeing your floor.
How long does it take?
A typical house of 60 to 120 square metres usually takes two to four days, including drying time between coats. Plan to keep off the floor for a few more days after that before returning furniture and rugs.
Is there any cost to enquire?
No. Sending an enquiry is free and there's no obligation to accept a quote.
